Thanks to my school music teachers I was encouraged to study singing seriously when I was sixteen. For over forty-five years I have enjoyed a wonderful adventure in music beginning with choirs, leads in musicals, and culminating in performing with the Vancouver Opera.
When I was twenty I entered the MONC auditions in Vancouver and placed third so I know exactly how our young singers feel on audition day. After graduating from the University of British Columbia with a degree in education, I continued doing lead roles in professional and semi-professional musicals. I auditioned for Vancouver Opera and was accepted in the professional chorus where I performed for over thirty years in over one hundred productions with such greats as Joan Sutherland, Richard Bonynge and James Morris. When I retired from the opera I decided it was “payback” time and I joined the Vancouver Opera Guild and accepted the position as the director of the MONC auditions for Western Canada which I have enjoyed for the past five years.
